Case: Sticheraric Hymn “At the Tomb (Mary Magdalene) sought Thee”
The present paper is motivated by the morphological, tropical (modal), and aesthetic
particularity of the Slow (Sticheraric) Praises in the Third Tone: “At the tomb (Mary Magdalene)
sought Thee,” as it has been formed according to the performance/transcription of Konstantinos
Priggos. The particularity of this version lies in the interactive structure of the hymnographic text,
which encourages the use of a varicolored phraseology, frequent modal changes, variational
density, narrational expression, rhythmical and temporal variability, resulting essentially in the
deconstruction of the traditional swift/syllabic form of this sticheraric hymn. All of the above
techniques contribute aesthetically to the creation of peculiar soundscapes with the aim of
